Build It Green

HVAC Efficiency Dashboard

How does HVAC efficiency and room temperature affect energy use?

First, enter the total kWh needed to run the learning devices for your space. If you do not have this number, you can recalculate it. Keep lighting and cafeteria appliances turned on for all investigations.

Then, you are going to run three tests:

  1. HVAC System Type: Choose a room temperature and building size, and keep them the same for the test. Test each HVAC efficiency rating and record your results.
  2. Room Temperature: Choose an HVAC system and building size, and keep them the same for the test. Test each room temperature option and record your results.
  3. Building Size: Choose an HVAC system and room temperature, and keep them the same for the test. Test each building size and record your results.

Estimating Electrical Use

Monthly Values
Monthly energy use values are based on an average 5 day/week schedule. When appropriate, values are scaled to account for seasonality and rounded for readability.

Cost
Operational costs are based on average utility rates of Missouri in 2023.

Baseline Values

Building Dimensions
This dashboard assumes a 25 x 25, 30 x 30, or 35 x 35 foot classroom with a flat roof.

HVAC
HVAC energy use is based on average weather patterns from Missouri, including climate data such as temperature, humidity, and solar radiation.

Lighting
Calculation is based on 10 LED ceiling panels on for 8 hours / day.

Cafeteria Appliances
A fixed energy use amount for food preparation appliances is included.
