How does adding windows to the building shell affect energy efficiency?

First, enter the total kWh needed to run the learning devices for your space. If you do not have this number, you can recalculate it.

Then,

  • Make sure lighting and cafeteria appliances are turned on.
  • Choose a moderate room temperature and a medium HVAC efficiency level.
  • Keep these the same while you test windows.

Finally, test each window option (no window, small window, large window) to see what happens to your energy use and your electric bill. On your final test, turn the lighting system off and see what happens when you have a large window for your classroom. Record your results.
